We went to a funeral yesterday for an uncle who died unexpectedly of a heart attack. When we got back from the funeral, we received word from a dear friend (my age) who's dad had just had an unexpected heart attack that day and probably doesn't have much time left to live. Hard to believe, hard to comprehend.
The day before all this happened I was reading in 1 Corinthians where Paul compares our physical body to a seed. It has to die in order for the plant to grow. And our bodies have to die in order for God to give us new glorified bodies. This little comparison seems so beautiful this time of year, as I spend hours dreaming about which seeds I will plant in my garden and which glorious plants will grow from them. To look at what a seed looks like beside a full flowering green plant is breathtaking when you consider that soon the same transition will happen to all of us, and is already underway in those who've died.
I found this song - it's called "the Desert Song", and it's about praising God in hard times like this. There's a little explanation from the author of the song first, then it plays the song. I recommend listening to it closely all the way through. It is truth and it's powerful.
